Drousheia Village - Cyprus

Drousheia, Cyprus The Area of Drousheia starts where the village of Prodromi ends and spreads all the way to the sea at the Akamas Peninsula. Drousheia is still a young village unlike others where the population is in decline. On the outskirts of the village is the church and monastery of Saint George Nikoxilides which in ancient times had surrounding buildings housing monks who lived there and farmed the area.

Taking a walk into the village square you will see the main church of St. Epifanios which was build in 1886 after locals found the icon of St. Epifanios in the Akamas Peninsular. The church has been renovated with village and government assistance. Surrounding the square are the Muktars (Mayor) office, coffee shops, supermarkets, tavernas and a coppersmith who still makes hand crafted items. There is also an open air theatre, which through the help of Nikos Shafkalis brings groups to perform during the summer months.

One last observation must be made before leaving the village boundary. After joining the road back to Polis you pass a kiosk on the left hand side as you see the goat farm on the right, you will notice the incline of the road is uphill so you would expect your car will roll backwards if in neutral gear, not so it will move forwards and even pick up speed.
